Woodworking project plans you can resize
Each plan recalculates as you type: the parts, a to-scale drawing, the boards and plywood sheets to buy (run through the cut-list optimizers), hardware and numbered steps. Built from standard, beginner-friendly joinery with screws and glue.

What every plan includes
- Adjustable dimensions in inches (fractions like 5 3/8 are fine) or millimetres, plus material thickness, because plywood sold as 3/4" is often 23/32".
- A cut list with every part lettered, its quantity, length, width and thickness, and the board or sheet it comes from.
- A drawing to scale, front and side (or plan), with overall dimensions. Hover a part in the list to find it.
- A shopping list of whole boards and sheets, computed by the site's optimizers, with board feet.
- Hardware and steps: screws by size and count, and the build in order.
- A shop sheet: print it and the page reduces to the drawing, the lists and the steps.
Nominal and actual lumber sizes
Softwood lumber is named by its size before drying and planing. A 2x4 is 1 1/2" × 3 1/2"; a 1x12 is 3/4" × 11 1/4"; a 4x4 is 3 1/2" square. Every plan is drawn with actual sizes and lists the nominal name to ask for. The board foot calculator has the full table.
Common questions
Are these woodworking plans free?
Yes. Every plan, cut list, drawing and shopping list is free to use and print, with no account. The plans are computed in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Can I change the size of a plan?
Yes, that is what they are for. Type your own dimensions (in inches with fractions such as 5 3/8, or in millimetres) and every part, the drawing, the lumber, the hardware and the steps are recalculated.
How is the lumber list worked out?
The parts are run through the site’s cut list optimizer (for boards) and sheet cut optimizer (for plywood), with saw kerf, and each list can be opened in the optimizer. The count assumes defect-free stock, so buy a spare for anything you cannot go back for.
